Full Moon Release

Yoga Classes in Gibsons, BC - Integrative Healing with Sadhana

It began in a not so subtle way on Friday with the wind whipping around Howe Sound in a wild fury. The water was dark against the white caps and even in my car as I drove from Horseshoe Bay to Whistler, I felt the power. Everywhere I went I felt a resistance to this force. This is a time to release and surrender, not a time to stand up and fight. You just won't win. The energy of the wind is a gift encouraging you to let go of ideas, feelings or even objects that are no longer needed.

What are you holding onto and why are you holding so tight? Haven't you wanted to release the energy behind something you did or didn't do or something you said or should have said so very long ago? Can you feel its pull? It wants to go! You no longer need to carry this burden. If the sky clears tonight, get out in the moonlight and offer whatever you are surrendering to the moon. She will take that energy wherever it needs to go.

Go get a piece of paper and write it all down. Write down everything you are sorry for, feel guilty for or ashamed of, every resentment and just keep writing. Fill up as many pages as you need. If the tears start flowing, know that that too is part of the releasing process. Are there any sentimental objects associated with these feelings? If so, they need to go to - so gather them up in preparation for the release. Know that you can work with this energy for the next three days. It all doesn't have to happen tonight.

Here are some ways to release thoughts, feelings and objects:

• burn your lists (everything you wrote down)

• burn old letters or diary pages

• drop off objects at a local thrift store

• have a shower in celebration of letting go

• walk barefoot in the ocean with the intention of cleansing

• return a favourite crystal to Mother Earth

Once you have released, now it is time to fill your cup. On a micro level, the power of the wind is mirrored in the way energy moves in the physical body. Find some time to sit quietly and breathe with awareness just observing your inhales and exhales - nothing fancy, just observe. Count backwards inhaling 11, exhaling 11. Inhale 10, exhale 10 and so on until you get to zero. If that felt comfortable, try it again observing if inhales or exhales are even. Simple breath practices will help you to restore and feel more content. If you are ready to learn more, book an appointment and we can work together on a personalized practice just for you.

If following the lunar cycle is not part of your monthly routine, get a moon cycle app for your phone. I use the free version of "Moon" by CDV Concepts.

As your awareness of the lunar cycle grows, so may your need to balance more yang style yoga classes with yin and restorative classes. You may find yourself at the shore more often or spending more time in the bath. Connecting to the sacred feminine through water is a beautiful way celebrate the moon.
